Cozy-Up For Cooler Nights

Every year I struggle with "back-to-school season". I love summer. When school is back in session, it means we're only a few weeks away from having to say goodbye to my favorite time of year. Soon it'll be time to up-root all the beautiful planters full of flowers, and put away the patio furniture. Every year- I struggle with this. Heck- I've held on to summer so long before that I've literally decorated around my pots of flowers with pumpkins and cornstalks. Living in denial is unhealthy. I've learned that I need to embrace the change.

I read an article from Joanna Gaines last year that changed my mindset of fall completely. I never EVER looked at fall before as a new beginning. In her article "A Fall Reset" she shed light on the "back-to-school season" in such an inspiring way. She called it a time for new beginnings. Wow!

My past feelings of fall were... "It's all over". The sunshine, the playing outside, the freedom from homework and studying for tests... It's over. The fields turn brown and scraggly, no longer full of life and beauty. The birds fly south, and the gardens gets tilled up. Everything that was good- is gone. That was my mindset! What a pitiful way of going into what can be a really beautiful time of year!

I look at fall now as "a new beginning" just like Joanna suggests. I find that making changes inside my home that showcase the beauty of fall, really make an impact on how much I enjoy the season's change.

August 6th was the day kids went back to school here. Our 'new beginning' started early! To me- it's still summer, but since I'm embracing the change - why not start with a change in colors. (I'm just not ready to set out my pumpkins and fall decor quite yet.)

I created a new color palette to use in our bedroom, making it a more cozy space for the months to come. Moody rooms have been a trend lately that I love- and fall really embraces the moody vibes of these colors.

I think I'll welcome cooler weather with open arms in this cozy room.

Cozy Master Bedroom

Make a space cozy by using lots of heavy textures, warm colors, and a variety of different embellishments like fringe, buttons and tassels.

Add metallics. It is something I always like to do.

I used an antique bronze bud vase, bronze nail heads on the desk chair and also for the hardware of my dark green velvet drapes.

Embrace the change of seasons by bringing what makes each seasons unique, into your home. Here is a short clip that highlights the simple changes you can make to your bedroom to get ready for cooler temps.
